Runway Diaries: Post-Fashion Week Thoughts Part II
The day after the FNO events and model fittings, I woke up early and headed to Lincoln Center to watch the Project Runway Final on behalf of Rowenta. I love the opportunity to see all my Project Runway alumni, especially Nick Verreos—one of my favorite Project Runway peers. Ive spent a lot of time with him between my trips to L.A. and have traveled to Europe with him the past two summers for Miami Universitys study abroad program in Florence, Italy.
I love going to the Project Runway shows and seeing what the designers have come up with; this season I thought that Laura had the best collection. It was a madhouse on runway after the show where I ran into Joanna Coles, editor-in-chief of Marie Claire, and Heidi Klum.
I didn’t have much time to chat since I had to run over to the Rowenta booth inside Lincoln Center. I designed some great fashion figures (if I do say so myself!
), and Rowenta had an amazing booth set up with six different irons and shelves full of T-shirts and tote bags.
People inside the tent could pick from two illustrations to iron on either a shirt or bag. It was a great way for fashion-week goers to test out the iron and get a great souvenir from NYFW. Needless to say, it was a popular booth. Its easy to talk about something you are so passionate about; as crazy as it sounds, I am very passionate about Rowenta Irons; theres a reason that they are the official iron of NYFW and Project Runway: theyre truly are the best!
After leaving the tents, I ran over to the magnificent John O’s for my hair and makeup. He is truly a makeup genius: I came to him with unwashed hair and tired skin and he made me look like a fresh-faced beauty for my next event of the day, the GenArt Fresh Faces in Fashion Design Competition. I love that GenArt supports young artists in design, movies, music, and on canvas. They also always throw great parties
.
There I ran into Angela Simmons and her stylist at the show. Ive dressed Angela numerous times, and she always looks amazing in my clothes. And I also got to sit next to another one of my favorite Project Runway alumns, Jay McCarroll. Jay is always hilarious and had me laughing the entire time the models were walking down the runway. Following the show, Jay and I headed over to the after party and ended the night with some great NYC $1 pizza! I couldn’t stay out too late though as I had another early morning of FW prep a few short hours away!
