Kent landslide knocks out power, shuts down major street

KENT, Wash. — Expect traffic backups in Kent Wednesday morning after a small landslide knocked down a tree and power lines near Central Avenue South and Willis Street.

The slide happened about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. No one was injured, but the slide cut off power to some 1,400 residents and closed Central Avenue South.

Central Avenue South between South 259th Street and Gowe Street is currently closed. Titus Street and Willis Street are also closed eastbound at Fourth Avenue South to Central Avenue South.

City of Kent crews worked overnight to clear the mudslide and remove the fallen tree. Puget Sound Energy crews are working to restore electrical service. So far, there’s no estimate on when they’ll be done.
